WENDOUREE WEST RECREATION RESERVE
$7 MILLION FOR THE REDEVELOPMENT OF WENDOUREE WEST RESERVE!
The Andrews Labour Government is delivering a bigger, better Wendouree West Reserve with $7 million allocated in the State Budget for the redevelopment. Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison has worked hard to guarantee this funding and believes the community will benefit greatly from the new sporting and community facilities.
The Wendouree West Reserve redevelopment project will include a new pavilion and community hub, new soccer pitches and lighting for night games, as well as basketball, skate and BMX facilities for local kids. Not only will the project deliver great sporting facilities, it will also include fantastic community spaces. Premier Daniel Andrews explained that “at its core, community sport is all about community spirit. With this investment, we’ll help make this strong community even stronger.”
This investment will also go towards the relocation of the Wendouree West Men’s Shed and a new ReCranked Shed, a service which takes unwanted bikes, fixes them and gives them back to the local community. The redevelopment will also include new inclusive and accessible play spaces for our kids, new BBQ and shelter spaces for local families, and a brand-new dog park. Premier Dan Andrews believes that “From our next great soccer stars to local pups – this will be a space everyone can enjoy.”
The project will provide a space for families to socialise and connect, as well as ensuring more playing space for the growing number of local soccer players. Community soccer is growing quickly, with around 1200 participants in the Ballarat area alone. This number is expected to grow even bigger, reaching nearly 2000 players by 2026.
So many people have contributed over a number of years to make this redevelopment possible. It has been an amazing community effort by the Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre, the YMCA, the Forest Rangers Soccer Club and the City of Ballarat. The investment from the Andrews Labour Government is in addition to funding from the City of Ballarat and local community organisations.
“I thank everyone who has worked so hard to develop this important project. With these upgrades, local clubs and the local community will have the great sporting and community facilities they deserve”, Juliana Addison said.
The announcement builds on the Andrews Labour Government’s existing investments in Ballarat sporting facilities, including expanding the Wendouree Sports and Events Centre and the redevelopment of the Eureka precinct, significant upgrades to MARS Stadium and C.E. Brown Reserve.
